In-school medical support
Julie Smith joined our staff as a Specialist Support Assistant in September 2014. Julie has previously worked as a Teaching Assistant in a large and outstanding local primary school but prior to this worked for many years as a nurse wihin the NHS. Whilst Julie will not be expected to undertake a formal nursing role within the school, her unique skills mean that she will be primarily supporting students with physical and medical needs in school. She will also provide a point of contact for parents and outside agencies for students with more complex needs. Julie will also be responsible (under the leadership of the SENCo) for maintaining Care Plans and records of medical needs. Julie will also be one of our school first aiders.
Please note that students who are injured at school or feel ill will be seen by Julie or in her absence another first aid trained member of staff. Students are not permitted to be picked up by parents without the consent of a senior member of staff. It is recommended that if your child telephones you during the school day complaining of illness or injury, you do not attempt to collect them unless you have been contacted by the school office.
