Knowledge | Key Skills - Intro to Melodrama Student will be familiar with this style of acting from cartoons - but this unit takes them through the origins, conventions and stock characters to create their own improvised sketches. | History of Theatre - Commedia Dell’Arte The most popular theatrical style for over 2 centuries, this Italian format is the basis for much of theatre today. During this unit, students will also get the chance to encounter working with masks. | Plays - Missing Dan Nolan by M Wheeller We return to the works of this playwright, but with a much more serious tone. This more mature script enables students to show sensitivity using a real- life story with a powerful message. | Practitioner - Bertolt Brecht This unit is a different approach to what students will be used to. The plays we have studied previously have been a gentle guide towards Brecht’s theories of how to ensure an audience is focused. | Plays - The Canterbury Tales by John O'Connor This first look at The Canterbury Tales is an exploration of character and multi-roling using the techniques learnt of Brecht’s theories on audience interaction and direct address. | Plays - Page to Stage - The Canterbury Tales During this half term, students use their deeper understanding of appropriate performance techniques to fully rehearse, stage and perform and extract from the play in groups. |
