KnowledgeIntroduction to History: Students are introduced to concepts such as time, chronology and sources. Invasion: This topic focuses on England from c.1000 to 1100. In particular, we ask why England was subject to invasions, how it dealt with the succession crisis in 1066 and the impact that William I had on English society.Role of Castles: The arrival of castles had a significant impact on British society. Students conduct an in-depth enquiry into how castles were used, what their many purposes were and how they defended people in times of war.Medieval religion: Students investigate the importance of the Church over the people of England. They will also study the conflict between the Church and State focusing, in particular, on King Henry II and King John. They will also explore why the Crusades were called and the impacts they had on Europe.Medieval Life: Students will consider what life was like for normal people during the medieval period. They will also explore the impacts of the Black Death and the causes and consequences of the Peasants’ Revolt.Law, Politics and Great Britain: Where did Parliament come from? Who really held the power – the King, the Pope or the people? And how did Scotland and Wales attempt to achieve their own autonomy against the English? Students will consider these questions and build upon their understanding of politics in BritainThe Wars of the Roses: Students investigate the causes, key events and individuals, and outcomes of the War of the Roses.
