KnowledgeThe Tudors: Henry VIII Students will investigate whether the Elizabethans were correct to refer to Henry VIII as Henry the Great. They will consider his marriages, his convesion to Protestantism and his decision to close down the monasteries. We will also investiaget the impact of Edward and Mary’s reigns.The Tudors: Elizabeth’s Problems and the Stuarts How well did Elizabeth deal with her problems as queen? This is our overarching enquiry as we look at life in Elizabethan England and the challenges it faced. We will also consider the new challenges posed under the Stuarts.Political change: Students will investigate the changing nature of political power in England from the Stuarts to the Republic and the return of the monarchy. Students will also study the social impact of the Civil War.The British Empire and slavery: Students will ultimately consider whether the British Empire was a force for good or evil in India. To understand this they will look at the growth of the Empire (focusing in particular on America) and the impacts it had in India.The Changing Nature of Warfare: In this thematic breadth study, students will investigate how warfare has changed over time and the impacts this has had on the battlefield, the soldiers and civilians.Non-European society: Students investigate how the lives of the Native Americans are similar and different to our own. They will investigate their locations and houses, diets and spiritual beliefs. We will also explore why their existence led to conflict with the white Americans.
