KnowledgePolitical developments in the 1800s: Students explore how Britain was changing from the 18th century to the 20th focusing in particular on the lives of ordinary people and the growing demand for political reform. In particular, we will focus on the expansion of suffrage to working men and women.Russia in the 20th century: Students will explore the unique history of Russia from the October Revolution in 1917 to the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991.Persecution and genocide: The twentieth century witnessed an unprecedented level of state- sponsored violence against its own citizens. Students will explore how this occurred in Europe and Africa to consider if there are any parallels.Why is Britain multicultural: In this topic, students will track historical migration into Britain and consider the different reasons why people have emigrated to Britain. We will begin with the Angles, Saxons and Jutes after the fall of the Roman Empire and finish with the impact of the European Union.GCSE Content: Germany: All students will be introduced to the Germany unit of the GCSE course. We begin by looking at Kaiser Wilhelm’s Germany and the great changes the country is experiencing (linking back to the Industrial Revolution topic earlier in the year). Students then explore in depth the challenges the country faced in the 1920s, the rise of the Nazi Party and the impact of Nazi rule on the German people.GCSE Content: Germany: All students will be introduced to the Germany unit of the GCSE course.
