Introduction into the elements of music and technical terms of musical language. Developing initial performance skills
Instruments of the Orchestra
Practical exploration of the four instrumental families, studying each group in term, completing a performance of 'ode to joy'.
Instruments of the Orchestra 2, learning about Samba and class percussion performancesSilent Film
First music technology unit. Students understand the origins and history of silent film, and using Garageband begin to create a sound track using sampling and premade loops
Notation and Keyboard Skills
This unit explores the fundamentals of music theory, and reading music using the treble and bass clef (with extension task on the alto clef). Students work out the notes and perform pieces on the piano
Ukulele Performance
Students learn to play the ukulele with basic chords, playing as a class and accompanying songs. Collaboration of all skills performance
Based on what is learnt across the year, students prepare all skills for an end of topic test.
