KnowledgeCaribbean Music
Recapping knowledge of chords, students will study music from the Caribbean music, starting with Calypso and Soca before moving into Reggae and Bob Marley
Song Writing
Students will learn the main chord progressions used in pop songs, and the structure of pop songs. They will work in groups in creating and performing a song from scratch.
Classical Music Through Time
Stretching and challenging students, this topic will explore famous piece of classical music, and students will learn about the history of classical composers (Beethoven, Mozart & Handel). Students will deepen their music theory understanding
Fusion - Bandlab Composition
Linking from the previous topic, students will explore how classical music has been brought into the modern day by fusion with club music. Students will create their own fusion piece using Bandlab
History of Pop Music
Starting with the 1950s students will examine a decade a week, looking at the most famous pieces of pop music and exploring the evolution of different pop styles into the present day.
