Christmas Activities

The festive season is well underway, and we’re excited to share a fabulous line-up of activities to spread holiday cheer and bring our community together. Join us for Christmas and Carols at St Laurence Church, a beautiful celebration of music and tradition. We’re also hosting our annual Senior Citizen's Tea Party for our local local seniors.

Our talented Year 7 students will be taking to the stage for a special performance of A Christmas Carol, showcasing their hard work and creativity. On Christmas Jumper Day, the whole school will embrace the festive spirit while raising funds for good causes. Finally, don’t miss our Fundraising Christmas Quiz, an evening of fun and friendly competition, with all proceeds supporting the Kenya Charity Trip.

Christmas Jumper Day - 12th December 2024

We're taking part in Save the Children's Christmas Jumper Day on Thursday 12 December! By pulling on our Christmassy knits and donating, we’ll be supporting children in the UK and around the world to keep safe, healthy, and learning. We’ll be helping them fight for the future they deserve.

Just click the link below to donate £2 (or more if you're feeling generous...) and it will go straight to Save the Children. (Cash donations will also be accepted on the day if you prefer.)

The money we raise could go towards some amazing things like:
£2 could buy a packet of seeds for a family in Kenya to grow their own food, after drought has killed their crops.
£8 could buy a blanket to keep a child in Ukraine warm through winter.
£20 could buy enough supermarket vouchers for two children in the UK.

Mayor’s Cadet Award

This week, we welcomed Cllr Gordon Wiseman, the Mayor of Winslow, to present Gabriel Marina with the Mayor's Cadet Award, recognising his outstanding dedication and achievements.

This honor is given to a young person who has demonstrated exceptional commitment, leadership, and service within their cadet organisation. Gabriel’s dedication and achievements have clearly stood out, and we are incredibly proud of him for receiving this well-deserved recognition.

Very well done Gabriel!

Rotary Shoebox Appeal

We are proud to be supporting the Rotary Shoebox Appeal again this year, in association with Winslow Rotary Club.

The scheme collects boxes of gifts to be distributed to families in areas of conflict and deprivation abroad, ensuring that a little of the joy of the festive season is shared with our wider, global community.

Oftentimes, we can feel impotent to make a difference in the world, but acts of kindness to strangers can make a real difference to the lives of those facing hardship. It gives our young people the opportunity to live our school value of empathy in a practical and explicit way.

Each tutor group will be making up boxes and we would ask that you consider making a small donation to assist with this.

There are four different categories for the boxes: Baby, up to 12 months; Child, for younger children; Teenager, for those up to 18 years of age; Household, practical items for older folks and families. The overall effort is being co-ordinated by the Phoenix Suite team and we have plans to reward the tutor group who donates the greatest number of boxes.

In the past, some of our STFS families have wanted to fill whole boxes and we would be delighted to hear from you, if this is something that you would feel able to do. Perhaps you would like to get your workplace involved. You can email harriet.bartley@sirthomasfremantle.org to request boxes to be filled outside of school and returned. For practical, transportation reasons, it is necessary to use the specific boxes that are supplied by the rotary club.

School Closures

As we enter the winter months, we’ve updated our website with important information about school closures due to severe weather.

Unless notified via email, parents and students should assume the school is open.

Updates will also be shared on our Facebook page and Buckinghamshire Council’s website. Decisions will be made by 7:30am in all but exceptional circumstances.

If closures are necessary, we’ll set remote work via Arbor, and students can also access resources through Sparx, Seneca, and Educake, or explore additional materials via Oak National Academy and BBC Bitesize. For full guidance, please visit our website.

Healthy Home Cooking

We’re excited to share a new initiative from Aspens, our amazing school caterers designed to encourage healthy home cooking, balanced eating, and smart budgeting. They are providing simple, family-friendly recipes that use affordable ingredients, are easy to prepare, and support nutritious eating. These recipes aim to inspire students and their families to cook at home, try new foods, and make healthy eating both accessible and enjoyable.

Educake Student Revision Contest

Educake is hosting a contest where 5 lucky students who use the Revision Wizard will receive a £50 One4all gift card (for use at 130+ retailers in store and online). We’ll also send some cake to the teachers in the winning departments!

The contest will run for a 6-week period, from 11 November – 22 December.

To be eligible for the prize draw, students must answer at least 10 questions using the Revision Wizard tool during at least 4 of the 6 weeks of the contest period.

They will be entered into the draw automatically if they meet the above criteria; they don’t need to do anything else.

A Message From Chiltern Railways

A number of trains will be running through Winslow in the coming weeks, as the line is tested and driver training begins. We recognise that this is a new railway line, and that students in the local area may not be used to live trains running through Winslow.

We ask that you remind students of the dangers of live railway lines. There are several useful videos from Network Rail available here - Safety education - Network Rail.

Flu Vaccination

The Bucks Immunisation Team will be visiting school on 29th November to administer the flu vaccine to all students.

Please keep an eye on your inbox for details of how to register.
